Which class should I take?
I’m an freshman in college and right now and im registering a little late. I picked anthropology 100 but would also like to take Arabic. The thing is the only available arabic class is during my anthro class. I wasn’t really interested in anthro in the first place but i’ve kind of warmed up to it now. But i’ve always wanted to learn arabic. Any suggestions?

If you want to study Arabic, I’d say register for it. Arabic may not be a course that is taught every semester. They may only be offering Arabic 1 this semester and offering Arabic 2 next semester. As for Anthropology 100, it is probably offered every semester. You could look for another section or perhaps take it next semester.
Talk to your college adviser. They can help you pick a schedule that is right for you. Also, they can give an insight as to what classes will be offered next semester.
Best wishes!

If Arabic is offered as a foreign language at your university and fufills the foreign language requirement, I don’t see where it would be a problem for you to wait until next semester or next fall to take Arabic. It’s all up to you. Which course will be less stressful for you? As a freshman in college, reduce the level of stress you place on yourself and use this time to get use to your surroundings and enjoy college. Which course do you think you will enjoy the most? The course you enjoy the most is the course you will probadly make the highest grade in. You can always study Arabic on your own during the summer or during the semester, so that when you do enter an Arabic course, you will be head and shoulders above the rest. Best of luck.

It sounds like the class is already underway, which means that you may have to wait until next semester to sign up for Arabic. If that is not the case, as a freshman, what are the requirements? Our freshmen usually don’t have much of a choice – they have schedules full of general education requirements. Did you meet with an advisor before registering?

I would say go with your first instinct – if you were really bummed about not taking Arabic and signed up for the antro. class just as a filler then drop it. Nothings going to stop you from taking the anthro class next semester/next year – the the Arabic class for that matter if you choose to take the anthro.

As a Freshmen you should consider taking all of your General Education (GE) first beacuse it will take at least 1 year and half to two years to complete them. Plus right now as a Freshmen you have priority to GE classes, don’t wait til your a Junior or Senior to take them because they will be first offered to Freshmen. In addition, you need to finish your GE first in order to advance to other higher level courses. When you are half way completed with your GE, consider making room in your schedule to fit in your Arabic class. Also if you would want to keep up with the Arabic calss without being in it, consider going to the bookstore and seeing the type of book that is required and purchasing it so you have a head start.

Well, it depends–would either of thos classes help you towards satisfying general education requirements? If so, I’d do the one that helps you satisfy your general education requirements. If you really HATE the idea of taking anthropology, it might be better for you to take Arabic.
