Usually you take it 2 or 3 times in your junior-senior years. Try to get it done your junior year.

you can register at collegeboard online or get a form from your counselor.

for the testing center… it depends. Sometimes you can take it at your high school, sometimes at a college or some sort of community center. You will get an assignment when you register. It’s easy to do it online. Anyway if you do it online you input your address so it will show testing centers close to you. You pick your 1st 2nd 3rd choices, etc. and it will assign you one of these. After you’ve picked a test and paid for it, they will give you a testing ticket. (by mail or a print-page online… depending on how you registered). You take the ticket and an i.d. to the testing center when you take it.

SAT IIs are the subject tests. You might not have to take them, it depends on the college you’re going to. You do take these in the same centers. More selective colleges may require 2 different subject tests. They’re less expensive than the regular tests. If you want to take a subject test it’s a good idea to take one that’s in the same subject that you’re studying that year. Like if you’re taking spanish 4 you’ll take spanish. if you’re taking chemistry you can take the chemistry test. A really easy one is Literature… it’s almost just like the reading part of the normal test… just it has more technical terms and you have to be a bit more discerning.

Good luck, don’t worry about it right now! you have about a year 🙂

also you can take the ACT. Which I liked better. You can register for it and the SAT at their respective websites.

Yes you register either by mailing back the paper application or going to collegeboard.com. And no, you sometimes do not get to take the test at your high school. The SAT booklet will tell you which test is being offered for which test date. Choose the school closest to you and register early to ensure you have a seat. You can take SAT II’s anywhere they’re offered for a certain test date.

You can take the SAT anywhere in your area, but usually people do take it at their own school.

Collegeboard will guide you through all of the hoops.

One thing to note: freshmen don’t have to take the SAT and if you’ve not taken the PSAT it is better to do that one first (I know this from experience!).

Good luck!

When you fill out the SAT info you will fill out your zip code and then you will choose from several sites available to you available to you in the area. Be careful though, I was not careful and was one number off and ended up having to take it about 100 miles away from my home!

It depends, if you’re in high school ask someone in the office. They’ll get you registered and give you all the information you need.
