Many students who go to school with their high school friends end up complaining that college just seemed like an extension of high school, so you may have made the right choice in the first place. Give West Chester a chance. If by Christmas you aren’t starting to feel a little better about it, you can submit an application to transfer to Penn State in Spring.

Take general classes like English, social science, maths, fine arts etc which is required in any type of major. This way your time in West Chester will not go to waste.

Be sure that you take only those classes which are transferable to Penn State and which Penn State will accept.

Depending upon school, all the general classes should get transferred. The general rule is that only the major classes will not get transferred.

No worries, just look at the general ed courses at Penn State then complete those courses……courses you need to complete before starting your major. Basic courses like Math, English, Language, Humanities, Phys Ed, History…etc. Just talk to Penn State to see if the classes you are going to take at West Chester will actually transfer.

Start in on your general education classes. Those will transfer to any school no matter what. You’ll be able to meet with your friends on the weekends and through email, if you have a computer with a camera – viola! use that! :). It’s three hours away I know but you’re a leg up in a sense because you won’t be locked in with *just* the crowd you knew from high school. Trust me it helps. If you hang around only the people from high school and don’t meet new people, it becomes harder when you leave college and you don’t have other friends and a network of other people to help you make the contacts to get that job you want. Believe me that as we grow older we do grow apart a little from the friends we had. I know it’s intimidating, but if you stick with the general education classes you don’t have to decide immediately about you’re major.

And I’ll tell you a secret. Go ask your parents what they want to be when they grow up.

I’m 32 and I just NOW figured out what I wanna do! No one knows what they want to do when they grow up. It’s why we go around asking kids what they wanna be. To get ideas! 🙂

Don’t fuss about your major now. Just put yourself down as either undecided or general education. You can change it later (or you should be able to change it later). I’ve never had a four year college ask me my major until later, but I never got that far, me and colleges don’t mesh. I do better with unconventional ones.

Usually colleges hold career fairs. They bring in people from various fields of study, and they’ll talk to you about it see if it interests you. If it does, you get an idea where you want to focus you’re study. You can also talk to a career counselor too. But don’t fret about that now. You’re just a freshman. Have fun.

Try it out for a year, if you’re still miserable, then yes, transfer. But go in with an open mind. Don’t go into the year with the mindset of ‘okay, just tough out the year and I’ll be back with my friends next year!’ – of course you’ll be miserable. That’s negative thinking. Go in more like this ‘New people to meet, more friends to have and I’ll see my friends this weekend, this’ll be a breeze’ – or make up your own. Doesn’t matter as long as you’re finding a way to make the experience a positive one :).

Sucks, why would you turn down Penn State? (sounds like you did from what i gather)

give it a go for a year, you can submit your application for transfer, but chances are you’ll love your new school and by a year from now you won’t want to move. give your new school a 100% chance to be good for you.

Talk to your parents, they are paying the bill.

You could consider making some new friends……have you ever heard of networking?

Are you a Freshman or Sophmore? Those credits won’t transfer for Jr and Sr. classes.
