when joining a sorority is there a certain look a girl must have?

It is not a look that you need, but it is more of a personal pride thing. If a girl lacks proper hygiene, it comes across as a lack of personal pride.
A girl with pride and confidence stands out more than a girl that lacks those qualities. If a heavy set girl goes through recruitment and she carries herself with confidence and dresses appropriately for her body type, no one will care that she isn’t a size 6.
Personally, I would dress in a lady like manor that reflects good taste and value. It sounds prudish and old fashioned, but few things will get a girl released faster from a good sorority than tight clothes, lots of cleavage or a short skirt.
There are other criteria for sorority membership other than looks. Grades, community service, group adaptability talents, hobbies, etc. are more important than your looks.
Be yourself and enjoy rush. And if a sorority releases you because you don’t fit their “image” then you are better off in another chapter!!
I was not the typical sorority girl (I had the dark individual look going on in my early college days) and found a great group of women I connected with in my sorority. Some were tall, thin and blond, others were athletics with red frizzy hair, some had a little extra fluff. What brought us together were our personalities.
The important thing is to go into recruitment with an open mind about each house. Through talking with women of different chapters, you’ll find ones that you feel comfortable in.
And ditto to what Susan said about how to dress and have confidence 🙂
Best of luck!
I *did not* and *do not* look like a typical sorority girl, but I found a sorority who loved me and sisters that will be mine for life. It’s important to find a home that will be a good fit for you, not the “best” sorority on campus.
