What is the fastest way for me to get my CPA?

I have a BA in Economics but no coursework in accounting. Currently I work as a Staff Accountant and have been in accounting field 2 years.

California does not have the 150 hour rule, but you will need to have several courses in accounting. Below are the requirements to be eligible to sit in CA:

150 Semester Hours Required to Sit for the Exam? No

Minimum Degree Required: Baccalaureate

* 24 semester units in accounting (educational requirements vary, contact State Board for specific details) and

* 24 semester units in business-related courses (educational requirements vary, contact State Board for details)

Since you already have the bachelor’s degree, the “fastest” way would be to get the required hours of accounting courses through a local community college. Assuming that you have any knowledge about accounting, these courses will be cheaper than a college or university, easy, and many can be taken on-line.

Contact the California board to find out the exact classes that are required in that state (through nasba.org) below.

Certain states may differ a little, but most require 150 credits of college coursework, and a BA in Accounting to sit for the CPA exam. Some would argue you need both 150 credits and the BA just to PASS the exam, but who knows.
