The associates in applied science degree is usually a terminal degree. Occassionally, a universtiy will provide a Capstone program for the AAS which allows you to obtain a bachelor’s degree in a related field. However, the AAS usually means that you are finished with college and will be seeking employment immediately.

The associates in science is a transfer-level degree. This means you will be transfering to a university afterwards to complete your bachelor’s degree – and maybe a master’s or PhD.

A few programs offer the option of both degrees. Radiologic technology is one of those.

An Associates degree is a two-year degree, and if it comes from an accredited college it can count towards a four-year degree at another college or university. Associates degrees are usually AA’s (Associates of Arts), because two-year degrees usually are very basic and survey courses — one usually doesn’t have a declared major until the third and fourth years of a four-year degree.
