It’s all about having a certain guaranteed number of friends and a guaranteed minimum number of social events to which you will be automatically invited. So it appeals especially well to people who are insecure about the number of friends they have and the gaps in their social calendar.

Greek life is a fantastic experience. You will learn alot about yourself and others. Don’t assume you want to pledge a certain house. Go through Rush and see what each house has to offer you. I made some great friends, had access to networking through others, learned a great deal about myself and had a beautiful home to live in with 96 sisters.

I can not more strongly encourage you to read Pledged by Alexandra Robbins. She is an author who went undercover in a sorority to report on what happens. It is an excellent book, is still fairly recent, and undoubtedly would be in any library or major book store.
