If you are motivated on getting a college degree, it doesnt matter where you stay. If you want to meet new people and be exposed to different people, which I would advise, then I would go with the dorm.
I lived in the dorms for almost two years and failed out of school. (I would have failed out in one year if I lived in an apt/house with friends).
It was the greatest experience of my life and the education I got living in a dorm was great, just not of the college degree type. I learned more about myself than I ever had before and it was worth it, even though I failed out. That was not the dorm’s fault, it was mine.
I am now going back to school and doing great but it is much harder as an adult with a family and a full time job……

I lived in the dorms last year at a major university. I mean, they aren’t usually the biggest rooms ever and some claws come out, having to live in such a close proximity to someone else but it did help me to meet alot of new people. It’s also really convenient as class is usually really close and in walking distance. I find living in apartments to be alot less personable, unless you have random roomates, than the dorms. Good Luck!
