What if you got a College Degree but your transcripts say you are….?

What if you got a College Degree but your transcripts are incorrect and say you are 23 credit hours short in classes that you did and turned in the work for?

My girlfriend is trying to get into grad school only to be told that she is 23 hours short of actually having her bachelors degree. She has a diploma, with a seal, signed and all, but her college is telling her she is short credit hours and she actually went a semester longer to complete these very credits! She sat with the Dean and they said basically “ah it happens”….In fact on meeting the Dean, the Dean’s first words were “So you think you have a degree?”…what can she do about this, what recourse does she have? She graduated 9 years ago, the professors of these courses no longer even teach there…does she have to pay another $6000 to take courses she has already taken? HELP!!!

I’d go back and demand to see the Dean of students (i.e. not the department Dean). get the straightend out immediately. If they give you the run-around, threaten to go to your local newspaper and tell them about it. A story about how one got a printed diploma but never graduated will make for a top investigative story and call for the resignation of the Dean and entire distaste for the college.

So the Dean thinks she got her degree by mistake? Or does he/she think that she did indeed get her degree but the transcript has mistakes? I’m wondering because if anybody could have helped her, it would have been the Dean. Did the Dean give her any recourse or suggest anything at all? What a nightmare. Maybe she should try the registrar’s office or the head of her department. They might be able to help her. I can’t think of anything else.
