ok so I’m 22 years old ..and just started attending north shore community college ..with a GED. After I receive my associates degree there i want to transfer to northeastern university and take pre-medical studies to go to medical school. I was wondering do you think i should go for my dream or do you think its too late because of my age? Do you think they will accept me with a GED? And to get into a university what is the lowest GPA score 3.0 right???? PLEASE HELP ME!!! THANKS SO MUCH!

I’m not familiar with your state, but if you are enrolled in a community college and graduate with an AA degree, the GED won’t come into play at all. The universities you apply to for transfer will go by your college work. But you better make sure you are taking the required coursework for transfer to Northeastern U. In most universities, being accepted depends on completing required coursework, and every institution will have its own preferences, both for courses as well as for GPA. Your counseling center will know exactly what you need.

If you are just starting college at 22, you have been out of the loop for a while – so become VERY friendly with the counseling center, so you don’t waste time, money or energy while you’re choosing your classes and planning your future.

It will be too late for you to go for your dream when you are 102!! Congratulations on getting your GED (it probably wasn’t easy), and you GO for it. Best of luck.

PS: Here’s secret – it’s not the medical school part of your “dream” that counts – it’s the fact that you have a plan and you’re on your way. You may discover some other more exciting path on your way to your dream – that’s what college is for – not only to prepare you for a career you will love, but to open your mind and heart to new experiences and perspectives. You are in a wonderful place in your life and I hope you truly enjoy the adventure as you travel along.

I think you’re on the right track! Stay with it and complete your Associates degree. Normally an Associates degree fulfills most of the General Education requirements for a baccalaureate degree. Talk to your adviser at North Shore Community College and tell them your plans. Your adviser will be able to help you select the appropriate classes to fulfill your Associates degree requirements as well as your General Education requirements for Northeastern University.

No, I don’t think it’s too late to pursue your medical degree. I admitted a 60-year old lady into a medical school program. It’s never too late to learn. Life is a life-long learning process.

As for your GPA requirement question, check with Northeastern University to ask about their transfer student admission requirements. I’m sure a GPA of 3.0 is more than sufficient to be admitted.

Best wishes on fulfilling your dream!

decide what you want and go for it. This line of thinking is only going to make you give up before you start.

Aim high and do your best to achieve. Otherwise you’ll be working at minimum wage 15 years from now blaming your GED.
