What can I do to ensure that I can go to Harvard University?

I’m a junior in high school with relatively high grades. I have a 3.88 grade point average, am involved in five different clubs, and have all honors classes. I was wondering what else I could do to ensure that I will go to Harvard University?

Any ideas would be very helpful, thank you.

You need to get near prefects on the SAT or ACT, if you want to ensure getting into Harvad with that GPA. for sure.

What kind of clubs are these? If there is still time, then try to get into and place high in state and national competitions… which is done by some clubs.

I was in four clubs in high school and the only serious one was the Future Farmers of America… I competed in state compeitions and placed high. I was only in it for two years though and the compeitions I did were team ones and as a whole our teams didn’t qualify for nationals.

Then again with my ACT scores of 23.. I knew I wasn’t going MIT or anything. However, the university I end up going to wasn’t bad it got me into graduate school. My master’s program got such a good reputation I could probably get into MIT or Standford… definately anything in the Big Ten

My teacher in high school had told me that I need to venture down the Nile river for 3 months and discover some ancient artifact or something so I can really stand out. That made me laugh. Other than that a boy in my class who got into Harvard had a 4.80 gpa (we went to a private school), 10 APs all with scores of 5, a whole bunch of leadership and extracurriculurs but here’s the catch…his uncle works at Harvard. Another boy with the exact same qualifications minus the connection got flat out rejected. So I don’t really know if this helps or not…good luck though!

Nothing will “ensure” you get into Harvard. It’s a ridiculously competitive and overrated university to begin with. But, if your sights are set, then keep working hard, keep up those grades, and make sure your test scores are phenomenal.

In the meantime, consider a good handful of safety schools. The Ivies are admitting in record low numbers and students with 4.0+ GPAs are being denied. A state university can be and often is just as good as an Ivy.

Best of luck to you.

If that is your unweighted GPA — you are on the right track. If it is weighted, you need to bring up your grades.

You will need to get 2200/2400 on your SATs and write a killer essay.

Even then, there is no way to ensure entrance. Harvard (and all the top schools) turn down lots of qualified applicants all the time. But don’t worry about it too much — because you will get into some great university.

Establish good connections, volunteer, start a school organization or event, take a campus visit and talk with the people who would be dealing with your application, make your GPA perfect, make a nearly perfect or perfect ACT/SAT score.

You can’t guarantee it, and anything you would do this late in your high school career extracurricular-wise wouldn’t even help you, because it would look like you were just padding your resume to impress them. You might have a chance, but there’s really nothing you can do but apply there, and also find some backup places to apply to.
