In some cases you can only go so far in a community college. If you want a bachellor’s or higher, a community college can only get you started with an associate’s, then you can transfer credits (if they will transfer).

Speak with a career counselor at both a community college and 4 year, see what you want and what they can offer.

Best of luck to you!

The pros, in addition to what you already mentioned, are lower initial cost, more flexibility with scheduling, and a wider age range of students.

The cons are that not all credits transfer. You must be really selective in your choice of transfer institution if you intend to go on to a four year degree. Also, you will probably still be at home instead of on your own at a dorm. This could be a pro or a con depending on your point of view.

Pro:

1) Cheap

2) You may be staying home with your parents

3) You will get a lot of help from professors

4) You should be able to have a lot of access to a lot of greatr and cheap resources

CONS:

1) Feels like high school

2) All of the things you did in high school such as SAT and GPA doesn’t really matter so all that hard work was really wasted

3) Harder to get into classes (possible, depending on JC)

4) You may see your old high school buddies (again)

5) A lot of people don’t take JC seriously so this may rub you off in the wrong way

Cost is a pro!! Much cheaper and most classes tranfer to a major university… Plan ahead though. Also it allows a person to make sure that school is for them! It would be terrible to go to a four year university and find out that you dont want to attend college… Also you probably wont have to pay rent for two more years!!! I did two plus years at the local junior college and loved it!!!! Well worth it… It also allows you to get all you pre-reqs out of the way… Best of Luck GO WAYNE STATE WARRIORS!!
