What are the best majors for med school?

The only career path i have thought of through out my 4 years in high school is following the path of a doctor and i love science! My only problem is i dont know specifically what i want to become… i do know that i dont want to become the regular family doctor but something else… so i dont know what major to pick or should i go undecided.

As someone currently applying to medical school, I’m going to let you in on a little secret: it doesn’t matter what you study in college as long as you get in the prerequisites for medical school. If you check AAMC statistics, you will find that literature majors have the highest acceptance rates to medical school, and math majors are up there, too. It is difficult to get the prerequisites without majoring in Biology or some other science, but don’t let this deter you from studying what interests you. I know someone who is majoring in dance and wants to become a doctor, and I am studying both Accounting and Biology in college. Good luck to you.

You can major in anything you want, just take all the required pre-requisites. If you have a school in mind, go to their website and see what they want (for most, it is biology, chemistry, and math…but they can vary in the specifics of what they want).

As I said, you can actually major in anything. However, I think it may be a good idea to learn a language (maybe your can minor in that?). It may depend on what area you live in (for instance, if you are in California you may want to learn Spanish).

Med schools are now emphasizing students who are well rounded, so don’t just stick to biology. Good luck!

Any general science major like Biology. It is really hard to get your requirements if you major outside of science, and conversely if you get in too deep too fast with PreMed you might not be able to get out and do other things because people will think you are a waffler.

I want to do exactly the same thing!!!!!!!! Well first of all, you have to take pre-med, studying biology anatomy, and life science. Then you go to an internship, then you continue to what degree you are planning to get. You should go undecided, because most med students don’t know what they want to be until the end of medical school………..GOOD LUCK………..remember to study hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

I’d pick something other than just biology or pre-med majors. It’s a dime a dozen. Try something different or unique. Who knows, you may actually enjoy learning something different. Just make sure you fulfill all your pre-reqs.
