What are my chances of getting into USC?!!?

I have a culm. GPA of 3.7 I took the SAT I and my total score 1830. I have taken all honors throughout high school including AP/IB classes. I have been involved in 6 clubs: Model UN, Key Club, Learning International Langauages, AVID club, Amnesty International, and best buddies. I am the president of LIL and Vice president of AVID club. I started my own club called S.A.B.I.R. which helps to eliminate racism and discrimination. I am going to be the first person in my family to go to a university since both my parents immigrated here from Africa and just attended a junior college. I run the 100mH and my PR is 15.5sec. I am going to graduate with CSF honors and I have been taking classes at a Junior colleges to help take the place of some GE classes at a university. Please, if there is anything I can do to better my chances tell me! I want to get into USC! Their campus and 8 year med program is amazing!!

Your activities and the fact that you are a first generation college student may help, but 90% of USC’s entering freshmen this year had GPAs over 3.75, so this might take some luck. You don’t give a breakdown on your SATs, and the College Board only gives ranges for each individual portion, but if I add them up, yours are on the lower side. I worry a little that they will think that you might have done better academically if you had been involved in a few less activities, but these things are hard to predict. You are in some range, so it is worth applying, but make sure you have some decent backups, because USC is extremely competitive these days.

Your involvement in numerous activities and the fact that you will be the first in your family to go to college are both things that will help you get in. The problem I think is your SAT scores. 1830 is on the low side, so I would suggest that you study the subject that brought your score down and retake it. If you can bring your score up to 2000, you will raise your chances of getting in.

You said that you have been taking AP classes. Is your 3.7 on a 4.0 or 5.0 scale? I assume that you mean the Baccalaureate/M.D. Program when you refer to the 8 year medicine program. If it is on a 4.0 scale, a 3.7 is low only if you are apply as a Biology, Biochemistry, or other premed major, as most Bac/MD hopefulls do. If you are apply as a an undecided, undeclared, or other less rigorous major, I think a 3.7 should be able to get you in. To be on the safe side though, I suggest that you really study this semester and try to raise your GPA. If you have been getting A’s in the classes you have taken at your local junior college though, you probably don’t have to worry about your GPA.

Finally, I would suggest that you make sure your essay is as good as possible. Try to find a someone who is a good writer and is willing to proof read and critique your essay before you submit it.

Good luck!

You have the most amazing SAT score. When I went to UCLA, the highest score one could achieve on the SAT was a 1600. Because you took all the right AP/IB classes, you have a very good chance of getting into USC. If you want to get into USC badly enough, you will make the sacrifices necessary. I wish you the best of luck.

Dude, that is wonderful, I think u have a 90% of going there.

Because universities look for authenticity. Yes! Authenticity.

Colleges and universities know that we all do mistakes and try or best. And that why they look for potential in a person instead of perfection because people with potential tend to cope better and perform better

Its really simple as to applying to universities because they DO WANT TO SEE SOME FLAWS IN A PERSON RATHER THAN GOING FOR PERFECTION.

They want to see people who are around and geniune instead of ones that just do it for sake of acceptance.

I think that starting ur own club was a very clever idea because it will help universities see that authenticity in u.

Trust, go for it. But first try to appy for other rigerious universties will help u find better options for what ur looking for and more comfortability.

Good Luck!

UC Merced, UC Santa Cruz, AND Uc Berkeley ARE POSSIBLE CHOICES! YOU HAVE ABOUT A 80% CHANCE OF GETTING IN. YOU HAVE A 50% CHANCE OF GETTING INTO UCLA. AND USC, MAYBE A 20% OR 30% CHANCE. BUT DON’T LET THAT DISCOURAGE YOU! APPLY TO ANY SCHOOL YOU WANT TO APPLY TO!

You have a pretty good chance of getting in.

But that really means nothing. Just because you have a good chance to get in, doesn’t mean you will. So, just go for it. Apply, and whatever happens, happens.

My advice to you is just keep being involved/taking leadership roles and really keep up your grades. Apply to USC, as well as a couple other really good universities… but also apply to another university that YOU KNOW you will get into, as a back up… just in case.

And if for some reason, you don’t get in, you can always go to another university, and, assuming you stay involved and get really good grades there, you can always transfer to USC later.

Good luck!

Have you gone to a “Transfer Day” on the USC campus and talked with an admissions person?

Going to the USC college transfer day and talking to someone in person about your application helps tremendously, as it helps them put a face to a name. Your school record is fine, but keep in mind they get thousands of applications a year. By going to the campus and talking to someone in person, it really increases your chances of getting admitted to the school.

Keep trying and FIGHT ON!
