What are my chances of getting into a top 10 law school?

I go to a state school in Atlanta, GA. I could’ve gone to a higher tier school but I had financial troubles which prevented me from attending and I am on full scholarship here. I will be graduating next year and I am looking into law school. I am hoping that the fact that I am graduating from a state school wont hurt my chances. here are my stats: 3.73 GPA (will be graduating Magna C um Laude), hoping for a 160 or better when I take the LSAT, Poli Sci major/Japanese minor, i’m a member of over 6 prestigous honor societies (NSCS, Golden key, etc), I will be studying abroad for a semester in Spring 08, and I am very involved in community service/volunteer work, and a member of a sorority. My top 5 Law School choices are UCLA, UC Berkeley, Stanford, NYU, and Columbia. Do I have a chance at any of these insitutitions despite the fact that I my BA will be from a state school and not a “premier” undergrad insitution?

You need to take the LSAT first. Then, list all of your other stats. Until you know your LSAT score, speculating is a waste of time.

PS- Going to a state school will not hurt your chances.

hi Jacob, as long as that is not any longer an information superhighway or non-accepted college, regulation faculties care approximately your GPA, no longer the college you attend. So being at Ohio college won’t in any respect carry you back whilst it’s time to be conscious. so a good distance as your background is worried, each little thing seems stable. keep that GPA up (or perhaps improve it slightly, if available). additionally, merely be sure you have some professors with whom you have a super courting so as that they are going to write you a letter of advice. keep your self out of concern. so a good distance as your opportunities bypass, that is impossible to assert with out an LSAT score. There are those with incredible backgrounds who tank the attempt and finally end up at a decrease-ranked college; there are those with super GPAs who do extraordinarily nicely on the attempt and finally end up at Yale. What i’m able to inform you is that based on your background and GPA perfect now, you would be a doable candidate at any regulation college interior the country. So keep doing what you’re doing, and make time to prep for the LSAT to earn a suitable score. in case you are trying this, you will have a super hazard at a T10 college.

You didn’t mention a killer clerkship or internship at a law firm. Try King and Spaulding in downtown ATL.

If you do a great job at a major law firm, someone from the law firm will make phone calls or at least write a good recommendation. That’s what’s missing from your “resume” listed.
