What are my chances of getting into a large university?

Hi, I would like to know my chances of getting into large universities. I know it is impossible for me to get into top ones, like Yale, and the good ones like NYU, UCLA, etc, but I am asking about universities that are less selective.

My current situation

18 years old

Very poor high school grades due to skipping

High school drop out because of my personal philosophical reasons that most would regard utter bull ****

GED graduate

SAT 1780

Reading 580

Math 650

Writing 550

For the SAT Subject Tests, I will take Korean and World History. Although I’m American, Korean is my first language and I have vast knowledge on history of all kinds of cultures and nations due to my personal interest. I can safely assume that I will receive exceptional scores on both.

Planning to do one volunteering.

Strong recommendations are not expected.

Good essay writer

Thanks for reading. What do you think are my chances?

* I will rather not go to a community college.

You are right, you have no chance of getting into those colleges listed, but you have a good enough SAT score, and if you pick up a couple hundred hours of community service, and do well on the Subject Tests, then you shouldn’t have a problem getting into local colleges, and the larger universities that aren’t usually mentioned with UCLA and NYU. Don’t worry about Temple, you should get in no problem. They don’t mention the writing because some schools are stil adjusting to the newer version of the SAT. I would, however, recommend taking the SAT again, to expand your options.

I would visit several local colleges and ask them what their entrance requirements are. (Make an appointment first to speak to one of their recruiters or counselors). Tell them what your strengths are. Listen to what they have to say. Be calm, polite and receptive.

Like it or not, one way to attain your goal would be to attend a community college for a year and transfer out. By doing so, you will establish a track record of proven college ability.

If your scores on the SAT are as high as you anticipate them to be, consider applying for a scholarship in one of those areas. Above all, work hard & don’t give up your dreams. Your past attitude has landed you in a tricky situation. It may take some extra work, but you can do it! Best of luck.
