Speaking as a member of the committee board for Yale University Medical School, I can say that without a doubt the most popular major for pre-medicine students is the Natural Sciences. It shows a commitment to the sciences and the drive that we at the medical school value. However, we do get many OUTSTANDING students from the other colleges and that shows diversity, thinking outside the box, and many other skills that you just don’t get from being a science major.

In my pre-medicine days, I was a double major in Biochemistry and Finance at Yale. All in all, any major is possible. The major chooses the student, not the other way around!

Usually premed students major in a natural science, like biology. Premed is typically a track, not a major. You can major in anything and still take the premed track. The premed track is usually just a year of bio, 2 years of chem, a year of physics, calculus, and some English because those are the courses required by most medical schools.

It doesn’t really matter what major you go into, as long as you take all the premed courses, you can apply to a medical school.

If you major in natural sciences, you will end up doing all of the premed courses so that’s something to think about. Of course, check with the school you are applying to to make sure.

Good luck!

Not in the US and if you go to Medical School in another country, you will be required to meet US standards, which may take years. There are some Medical schools in Missouri that combine college and Medical school, but you start as a freshman.
