undergraduate research in the sciences?

I was thinking of getting involved in undergraduate research. I was wondering how many hours a week one usually puts into research and if you ever have to take your work home with you.

my major is biological sciences, so the research would be something from that field.

Thank You

I didn’t ever do research, but from what I can tell, it’s fairly time-consuming. I gather developing the question takes about 10 hours; doing the research takes about 60-70 hours; and writing up the results takes 10-20 hours.

It can be done anywhere, but you may need to use part of your lunch hour for it, if you don’t want to take work home with you.

depends on your graduate school and the field you want to go into. in social sciences(psych/soc), undergrad research is relatively rare in most schools. in the physical sciences it is much more common. I would recommend trying to get into a lab if possible, because it gives you quite an edge, but if you can’t, try to make it up in other areas like essays, gre scores, gpa, etc. the most important thing is good recommendation letters, so get to know your professors, and that may just lead to lab work anyways.
