How To Save A Life

UCLA, Syracuse University or Boston University?

Or: Stony Brook University, Binghamton University?

I have a cumulative average of 88%.

After School activities: Track and Field, Model UN, Chinese Club

Tae-kwon-do

Community Service: 40 hours (plus continuing) at a Nursing Home

SAT Verbal Score: 540

SAT Math Score: 610

Sat Writing: 510

Will I be able to get into any of those?

And if you had to rank them for your top choice, how would you?

I would rank them:

UCLA

Boston University

Syracuse

SUNY-Binghampton

SUNY-Stony Brook

Those are two of the better schools in the SUNY system — but the SUNY system is somewhere in the middle of the pack in terms of public universities. Any of the Big Ten schools, UNC, Virginia or anything else in the UC system would be much better.

it depends on what you want to major in…but assuming a common major (sciences, engineering, social studies)..in my opinion, i would say the rank as follows:

UCLA

Syracuse

Boston U

binghamton

stony brook

your SAT scores are too low for UCLA…especially if you’re out state.

idk what 88% is….what is it on a 4.0 scale? im assuming around a 3.5….thats not too bad. and class rank?

you should definitely be able to get into the SUNYs…

boston and syracuse should be ok….medium chance…

UCLA is a reach….

take your SATs again: you can take them up to december and even january for some colleges.

if you do better, you’ll improve your admission chances significantly.

good luck!!

It depends what you want out of a college. You can’t blanket categorize any university. What major are you looking at? I went to Syracuse, and different majors had different things they were looking for in their students. What kind of campus do you want? Do you want a campus at all? What kind of staff-student relationships are you looking for? What do you want in terms of activities on campus as well as off? Do you want to try for a scholarship based on any of your activities? Know yourself and have an idea of what you want out of college first. Visit the campus and see how you feel walking around. Can you see yourself there?

Use a web site such as College Board to see how your GPA and test scores compare to those of admitted students.
