Trying to transer to another college.. help please!!!?

I’m a freshmen in a private University this year and I want to transfer to another University(public) next fall for my sophomore year if its possible.

I didn’t get the greatest scores on my SATs when I was in highschool.. but my gpa was 3.8 (in hs)

so..if I apply to transfer, will my bad SAT score affect my chances of getting in?

or what can I do to help me get transfered?

(I want to get out as soon as possible, so please tell me how this works)

Thank you to anyone who helps. =/

When transferring, your current academic record (transcript) will be a priority and the SAT scores may be less important…but that depends on the school to which you are transferring.

The key to a successful transfer is to get the relevant information from the other school….directly from the other school….don’t talk with counselors at you present school (they don’t gain anything by having you leave). On the other hand, the counselors at the other school have an interest in having more good students come there. So, get them to work for you and with you.

First…is the new school you to which you want to transfer in the same state or not? It isn’t a problem if not, just that it adds some work to the process.

Second…is the private university you are attending accredited? and is the public university accredited? It is easier if both are accredited…but if one is not, esp. if you current school is not accredited, you may not be able to have all the courses transfer…so you may lose some credits.

Use the power of the internet to contact the schools you are interested in…get their application forms, deadlines, requirements, etc.

Use the college catalogs from both schools to match up the courses you completed with the requirements for the school to which you want to transfer. The good thing in your case is you are in the early years of college…and generally, the course work in the first 2 years is mostly General Education requirements that are fairly similar for most colleges.

There may be a few classes that may be different…for example, some States require a course on their state history or such. Sometimes the name of the courses are the same, but the course numbers are different…or vice versa…the numbers are the same but the names are different. So keep a copy of both college catalogs handy so you can so the counselors at the new college the details for the courses you already completed.

Also, some schools limit how many credits you transfer and count to your BA/BS…and have a minimum number of units for you to complete “in residence” (in their school).

a typical application package…application form, fee, transcripts, essay, letters of recommendation…some want a resume.

good luck, hope this helps you.
