Trying to figure out what kind of Bachelors degree I should get.?

I wanting to become a Librarian. For that I need a Master in Librarian Science.

But first I need to get a Bachelors in what….? I have no idea. I am told I can get it in anything.

But I have no idea.. I thought about education, but that centers mostly on teaching. I want to be a law Librarian… Some say that law librarians have law degrees, but Im not sure I want to do that way..

Anyone got an idea what kind of Bachelors degree I should get that will best fit me becoming a Law Librarian..

You do not need a law degree, but if you want to become a law librarian, you need a well-rounded liberal arts education. Don’t bother with an education degree, either. You don’t need to spend a semester student teaching. My local university offers a general B.A. in University studies for students who know they need a Masters that has no undergraduate degree requirements. Check on that. If that’s not available, take history, government, and English courses. Also, you need to get a computer research course into the curriculum some how. I do almost all my legal research on line and law students are taught on line research. The role of law librarian has changed in that regard, but most treatises are available only in book form. I do frequent the local law library and know the librarians have good jobs with good pay. They’ve become my friends over the years and I can call in research requests. They have a variety of degrees and I’d suggest you look for a major that exposes you to as many disciplines as possible.

I think you should get your bachelor degree in a subject that interests you. If you do something that is dull and of little interest then you’ll switch off and have less chance of gaining the required qualifications.

Then again, if you need to do some law subjects for the type of librarian you desire to be, then why not start a BBus and do the core subjects (including an intro to law class) and see what takes your fancy.

If you start one degree and change your mind then most unis are open to that, so don’t stress about it so much. Get into something you like and go from there.

All the best with your studies.

Well to be honest with you, it depends in what state you live in and additionally if you can speak other languages to. For example i live in NYC and I am about to graduate with a ba in sociology myself and I am looking to work either in a ssi office, or try to be a counselor for a high school( i would need a masters for that though). If you can speak any additional languages that also helps you find a job faster. Also, there are many options and jobs available in the field of sociology. For example, it is not like a teaching degree where all you can do is be a teacher. This degree can help you find careers in more than one field.

Go to library.

Ask librarian.

English Lit would be a good place to start.
