Transfering to USC with a GED?

(Im refering to the University of Southern California, btw)

Im in somewhat of a unique situation, hopefully you guys can help me out? I dropped out of high school after my senior year and I enrolled directly into city college. So far, I’ve completed about 30-40 transferable units and I’ve got a 3.5 gpa. I’m registered to take the G.E.D. in November. I’m a little scared, though, since I’ve already finished USC’s General Educational reqs and the reqs for my major. But all of this was done last year…

Does USC only consider college courses completed after a student has received a high school equivalent or GED?

You would probably need to actually contact USC for sure but I don’t think you will have any trouble. Like the first responder said, once you complete several college classes they tend to look at your college transcript and not your high school work. The best thing I could suggest is to talk to your advisor and see what he/she knows about transferring to USC. Usually these people know a LOT because there are lots of transfers to bigger universities and they are supposed to have at least a decent idea of what the requires, expectations, and needs are of each university in the local area.

I’m not sure on USC’s exact policy, but usually after a student has completed so many courses in college, they use the college transcript instead of HS record to judge you for admissions. They are usually more interested in in your college record than High School.

However, because you’re just now getting the GED, I’m not sure if it’s going to play a factor. How did you enroll in college before finishing High School or the equivalence?
