Associate’s degree in Sociology?

Is there anything a person can do with an Associate’s degree in Sociology (social work/counseling emphasis)? I want a career change and I’m thinking about going back to college. I don’t have the time or energy for a bachelor’s. An associate’s will only take me 1 year. Is it worth it?

Unfortunately, an associates in sociology even with the social work/counseling emphasis will not really get you very far. It may give you some entry to the very lowest positions (but honestly you would have that same entry with just a H.S. diploma. Most entry level human service positions require a BA (the BSW being the best credential).

Now there are many AA degrees that are more skill based that would open many doors. The best would be to get a nursing degree. Getting the RN would open lots of door. There are also usually AA degrees in computers and other areas that would be more practical than an AA in sociology (which is really ment as a trasferable degree into a BA degree.
