Think I have a chance Transferring to these top universities?

I’m thinking Rice, Texas A&M, Boston U or Northeastern U.

I’m a female Muslim from Saudi Arabia. I just finished my 1st year of college with 3.9 GPA, but with 20 credits (My university is new and there weren’t many classes) I graduated with %94 in HS, which is an A, & I think translates to GPA of 3.76 or 3.8.

I’ll be taking the SAT on October 6, & I’m hoping to get at least 1300. My previous TOEFL score was 237 computer-based & I’ll retake it to improve. I think I have a great essay in mind, and at least 3 recommendation letters from my professors.

I wanted to apply for Jan 2008, but my current semester won’t end until Feb, so that’s not an option. Therefore, I’ll apply for Fall next year, but take a time-off this second semester. Due to unexpected circumstances, I have to travel to the States by the end of this term.

So with this information, do I make a strong applicant to the universities mentioned? If not, how about U of Houston or such? Do you suggest anywhere else?

I think you have a very strong chance of transferring into the universities you mentioned. You could potentially transfer anywhere, but I would definitely put some weighted interest on Rice & Northeastern (very, very good schools), and also consider Southern Methodist and New Hampshire. Your GPA, test scores, and extracurriculars seem to be strong. As an academic counselor, I believe you stand a very, very good chance of getting into any college via a transfer. It seems also that your choices of universities are well-thought. Definitely try the universities you mentioned, including U of Houston, but also add SMU (Dallas, TX) and U of New Hampshire (Durham, NH) to your list of consideration. Good luck!
