Taking Math 2B or Chem 1A at UCI as a freshman?

Hey guys,

I’m going to be starting UCI in a couple of days and I’m really having some mixed feelings about my schedule. This past summer, I took, Math 2A (Calculus 1) at a Community College, and I found out around August from a GC at UCI that if I want to do pre-med (which I really want to), I should be taking Chemistry 1A and Biology 93 my first quarter and take Math later on say Spring Quarter. However, I’m afraid that if I wait that long, I might forget some of the stuff I learned in Math 2A. The other alternative is taking Chem 1A in the winter, and 1B in the spring, and then 1C in the summer. Anyone have any advice as to what I should do? Another thing, the

I would recommend dropping math right now, and taking the sequence of Chemistry during regular terms. Chemistry during the Summer term would not be a good idea.

You will not “unlearn” the stuff you just learned in Calc. Once you have made it that far into the math sequences, you will be able to pick right back up where you left off, providing you don’t take more than one term off.

Premed does not need much math and it’s not as important as chemistry and biology. So, I suggest you take the Math. as required for premed and get rid of it as soon as you can; then concentrate on the other courses that are more important for the field you want to follow.

Good luck
