switching majors?

I am a theatre major but am considering switching to political science focused on international relations/conflicts. I really want to take an international relations class, but the only one offered is at the same time as my only theatre class and i’m scared making the switch.

Also i’m worried about telling my family. My mom flipped out when i told her that i didn’t want to do musical theatre anymore and was going to try straight acting. I don’t even want to hear what she says when i tell her about this switch. Plus, when i was in high school and my dad wanted me to go into the air force academy, my mom was like…no…she’s not doing something that dangerous. And this is a pretty dangerous career choice.

A few weeks ago, we were at a family get together and someone asked me what i was majoring in. And my mom said theatre and then everyone was like…do you actually expect her to do anything else but theatre..where’s your head! Which made me not want to tell them ever.

Part of college is figuring out what you want to do with your life. Not what your parents want, not what everyone else thinks you should do, but what YOU want to do. It sounds like you’re not too far into the theatre stuff (not if you’re only taking one class), so why not take a break this semester and give the other a try? Just make sure you like the subject before you switch.

I only read the first couple sentences…but yeah… majoring in political science is probably going to get you further then theatre studies or whatever the hell it was.
