Studying for the GRE’s?
Favorite Answer
2. Buy one of the prep guides (Kaplan or Princeton Review are the best.) Read through it several times.
3. Memorize the math formulas and work as many problems as possible. As long as you have the basic formulas, the math problems are fairly easy.
4. Go through word root lists (only use lists of 50 or 100 of the most common roots- any more is pointless and overwhelming)
5. Look online for practice verbal test questions and vocab words. But don’t spend too much time just studying random words. Chances are, they won’t be on your test and then you wasted a ton of time.
6. Practice writing at least 2-3 full essays from sample topics in your prep book. Make sure to time yourself.
7. Register early so you have time to study again and retake the test in case you don’t do so well the first time.
8. Get a good nights sleep and breakfast before the test. Try not to stress out too much. It’s not the end of the world.
9. During the test – bring a water bottle, candy (peppermints are supposed to be helpful), and a sweater. Most test centers will provide earplugs to block the noise but you might want to bring your own. You don’t want any distractions.
10. Good luck! The GRE is not the end of the world, and I thought it was easier than the SAT and ACT back in high school.
