Sorority in Final Year..?
Favorite Answer
About you being a senior, it would really depend on the school and chapter. Some chapters at some schools might just want people to be there longer and because they have so many candidates they can choose the ones that will stick around the longest. Other chapters might not care that you’re a senior. We have accepted seniors and juniors in ours, but it’s definitely less common. The fact that you’re an intellectual yourself may mean that they would rather have you than a younger girl that just wants to party all the time. But of course that will vary depending on the chapter.
I’d recommend going through recruitment and explaining your situation. They’ll either be okay with it or not, but at least you gave it a shot. And you’ll be able to get a feel for whether or not they are intellectual. Ask them about their values and their scholarship program and the kind of activities they do. You’ll be able to tell. And tell them what you want out of a sorority. They’ll know if they are that kind of sorority or not.
Good luck! If things don’t work out with sororities, there are other organizations out there of course. But I still think you should go for it and see what happens.
Sororities usually want girls who will be there for 3-4 years, but if you meet the qualifications (grades, etc.) and they feel that you would be a good match for them, it might work out.
Call the Greek office on campus and find out when formal recruitment is.
I’m not sure what you mean about joining a serious sorority for intellectuals. But if you want to join a sorority on your campus that is serious about academics, you might to call the Greek office and ask which chapters have the highest GPA’s.
NPC sororities focus on three things: academics, philanthropy and socials. If you want an academic sorority, you may want to investigate Greek honor societies within your major.
If you decide that Greek life isn’t for you, there are so many other ways to get involved on campus and make friends! You could join a service group like Relay for Life or Up Til’ Dawn, both of which raise money for cancer research. Or you could join an organization within your major. Intramural sports are a great way to meet people at college, too. Good luck! I hope you enjoy your senior year!!
Go to Google Images and type in “fraternity 1800s” and see what comes up, then type in just “fraternity” and note the difference.
Unless you’re wanting to get some new drinking buddies and have a lot of money you feel like blowing on membership fees, as well as time you want to waste on mandatory participation events, I suggest you find a social group on campus rather than choosing Greek life.
At my school there are lots of social groups for people to join… everything from religious gatherings to people who like movies, etc. I have a good friend who is on my school’s Student Activities Board and he loves it… unlike a sorority, there are no fees, nothing is mandatory, and everyone is there for the sole purpose of thinking up cool stuff to do.
Hopefully there is a social group or something that you could look into, because really, based on my experience, a sorority is not for you if you’re looking for intellectual conversation.
Depending on the size of the greek system and the university, for the most part due to quota, total numbers, etc.
I was Recruitment Chairman for campus one year and was able to learn the tricks to recruitment. As a junior, you can still offer your chapter two years as a fabulous member. However, entering as a senior – it may take you the entire year (depending on the chapter you join) to complete your new member program.
If you have more questions about the logistics – ask me – but for the most part, your best bet is the non-Panhellenic sororities on campus (whether it be business, co-ed, music fraternities etc.)
Hope this helps!
