so you graduate from college and then what?

I’m just not ready to finish school as is expected from me, and then get some career that I may or may not have the rest of my life. I am in school and I work in the mortgage industry I like it, and want to have a career in it, but for some reason not right after I graduate. Is it odd that I want to finish school only to serve 4 years in the air force, or to join the air force and then finish school. I want to serve my country( i know there are more ways to do that then joining the military) I also want be in a new environment, I have lived in pretty much the same city around the same people. and I want a job that may or may not end up being my career but it will be a different experience I would not have had otherwise. I know there is a war going on so joining would make Iraq a possibility which doesn’t scare me I just know that would be hard on my family. so any advice or alternatives, besides joining the peace corp first. I have thought about it already

To thine own self be true and it must follow as the night the day that you cannot then be false to any man.

Follow you heart.

You should look into all military branches. In the army you will get promoted faster, which will be more money. You also get to choose the job you want to do and will get a bonus. Plus you can pick your first duty assignment sometimes when you enlist. There are certain options you get when you sign up. You also should look into going into the army as an officer though. If you finish school try to Officer Candidate School. I am not s ure the process to go officer because I am enlisted. You most likely will come in the army as an E-4 after graduating from college. Good luck to you. I am in korea right now and it has been a great experience.

Create your own path. Like me, you have a lot of options. What do you value more: experiences or continuing on your current career path? I am dealing with the same kind of predicament. I have always wanted to join the Peace Corps, but doing so would require some major sacrifices on my part, monetary and otherwise. I have also contemplated going to grad school, enlisting in the Air Force/Navy, and even becoming a contemplative monk (just kidding about that last part!) It sucks to have so many options, doesn’t it? =)

Why not just pick up and move to another city and get a job there? There are so many great places to live. You can still work in the mortgage industry and have an adventure at the same time. Don’t join the military for travel. That’s dumb. And if you want to help your country, volunteer here, for Americans who are in need. Habitat for Humanity comes to mind.

Don’t be a punk. Study for the enlistment test, this controls what jobs are available to you. Stay away from those that will accept people who score low. Join and at your first assignment go to the base education office and start taking classes with a top school. Stick with one and stay away from drugs and beer. Oh, and not everyone who enlist gets killed.

It’s not weird at all. We all only get one shot at life and if joining the Air Force after (or before) you graduate is what you want to do, then go do it and good luck! : )

Your graduate collecge & then realize that “stay in school so you can get a good job” was a load of crap.

Affirmative action & other ******** will interfere in your job hunting. Some companies would rather hire a retarded indian than a well qualitfied american citizen.

Good luck anyway.

My basic advice: Live it up, before you work.
