Showing interest/communicating with colleges?

I know that colleges like when you visit campus, email, make phone calls etc, to show that you are genuinely interested in their school. However… what I don’t understand is, how do they know who you are when you call, email, visit campus? I already visited my dream school’s campus and I plan on calling them with a few questions regarding the application process, but I want them to know who I am and know that i’m interested in their school.

So do they keep track or something? When I call, will they ask for my name and application ID?? Will they know i’ve visited campus (I took a tour and there wasn’t a sign in sheet or anything), requested information, and made phone calls?

Also…1 of the questions I have is about a residency question in the Texas Common Application that i’m not really sure about. Is it still ok for me to call 1 particular school about that? I don’t want to ask a stupid question, that’s all.

I don’t think schools really care that much if you call and ask questions….ask questions if you’re interested in knowing the answer, not because you want to make the right impression on the school.

is the school you want to go to have competitive enrollment? That may make a difference. Most schools do not have competitive enrollment so they won’t care if you call or not. The campus visits and like are to help you make the decision if you want to go to school there or not and see if you like the campus and town.
