Academic books* – £10 to £50+

Usually purchased at the school bookstore or a local shop, sometimes available secondhand, which of course, is cheaper.

Cost of Living

The cost of living in Derby is very reasonable, and we estimate that for 2007/2008 you should allow around £6,000 per academic year to cover living expenses, such as accommodation, food, books, clothes, entertainment etc.

Below you’ll find an approximate idea about the costs for a single student.

Expenditure per week in:

Rent (heating,lighting & water) – £55 Food – £25

Travel to University on Unibus – £4 per week

Books & course costs – £5

Telephone – £5

TV/Video rentals – £4

Clothes – £10

Entertainment/going out – £20

Total: £128.00

Don’t forget that you’ll need to add on your international travel costs. It’s also useful to remember that everybody funds their cost of living differently and some people spend more money on one thing than another. For example, if you come from a very warm country, you may need to buy more winter clothes.

Here are some average individual costs to consider:

Academic books* – £10 to £50+

Newspapers – 20p to 50p daily

Toothpaste – £1.80 per tube

Shampoo – £1.50 per bottle

Bread – 60p per loaf

Soft drink – £1 per 2 litre bottle

Alcohol – £3 to £5 for a four-pack of beer or lager

£3 to £6 for a bottle of wine

£10 to £20 for a large bottle of spirits

Hairdresser

Ladies – £20+

Mens – £5 to £10

Concert ticket – £5 to £30

Cinema ticket – £5 to £8

Restaurant meal – £12**

Cigarettes – £5 for 20

Ladies shoes – £20+

Men’s shoes – £20+

Winter coat – £50+

Trousers – £10+

Shirt / blouse – £10 to £25

* These can be cheaper if bought second hand

individually, i like Rosetta Stone. you may decide for which factors you may decide for to artwork on the main, and the speech attractiveness gave me a brilliant form of encouragement for truly talking the language and not purely write it. the subject with Rosetta Stone is purely that it is freakishly high priced. and there remains no computing gadget application or self learn stuff to income a language fluently. yet those issues are a sturdy place to start up and assist you to maintain examining greater.
