saving for college and tips?

Apply for scholarships at the schools you are considering going to. I wasnt really all that smart in high school, but I got decent grades and was involved in some clubs and I ended up getting a lot of scholarships for college. You don’t have to be a genius to get them. See what the schools you are considering have. Especially look into what scholarships there are for your major. I’m a dance major and there are a lot of scholarships through my dance department, that I didn’t even know about until this year.
I just apply for the fafsa every year, which is how I was awarded grants from the government (which don’t have to be paid back), and I get the student loans through fafsa(perkins and stafford). I’ll pay those off when I get out of school, but my parents are going to help me until I get a job. I’m really lucky for that.
I probably haven’t been much help, since my parents do help me out a little bit. But don’t think you can’t do it! Most of the people I know in college, their parents don’t help them out. It’s hard, stressful and sometimes you’re broke and it sucks. Whatever you can save up will help with spending money and books.
And books. They’re expensive, but look on websites like amazon.com that have used ones. They probably sell used ones on your campus, but usually online they are cheaper. I’m in a world lit class right now that requires about 10 books. I bought them at the book store and it was like $150, and then I looked on amazon.com and they were about $2 each. I was really mad at myself for forgetting amazon, after I had gotten some books for an art class there for $2 each the semester before. SO remember that!
And, this summer I’m taking an anatomy class. The book was about $120 dollars or something like that. I went to the library, and it’s there to check out for free. So don’t buy your books immediately. Decide how much you’ll use it in the class, and then decide if you need to buy it or if you can just get it from the library when you need it.
Good luck! It’s stressful, but you can do it. You just have to remember what you’re getting out of it. It seems like so much money, but its worth it for the job you’ll have after college than the one you’d have if you hadn’t gone.
