SAT and college?

ok so i am a junior in highschool right now..my GPA last year was about a 3.9 with one honors class. I now have 4 honors classes and i’m doing pretty good in all of my classes. And next year I plan on taking AP courses and all honors. I’m taking SAT classes every Tuesday and Thursday for the SAT that I will be taking on Novemeber 3. Next year, as a senior, I’m applying to UF (University of Florida) that is my absolute dream college! And it’s getting harder and harder to get into each year and I know i HAVE TO get an amazing score on my SAT. What is the lowest possible score I can get? And what’s a score I should aim for? And if you have any tips on how I can do well on the SAT and advice on how to get into UF please inform me! Thanks so much I really do appreciate it 🙂

Really, college admissions offices look at much more than just the SAT scores. Do your best in class, challenge yourself and ask teachers who really know you well to write recommendations for you. As far as the SAT score goes… half of the 77% of the freshman who gave their SAT scores (the other 23% gave ACT scores) scored between 560-670 on the Verbal part, and 580-690 on the Math section. The ACT mid-50% range was 24-29. This means that 25% of freshman scored lower than the range, and 25% scored higher. Also, they accept 48% of applicants, so almost 1 in every 2 people that applies will get in. Finally, 94% of freshman are in-state freshman, which means they are Florida residents. Again, you have an edge there. As far as studying for the SATs, really, if you know the patterns, and I’m sure they will have shown you patterns in your classes, they are not that bad. Get a good night sleep, and don’t worry too much about them or else you’ll be too stressed out to function well and take them to your best ability. It sounds like you’re quite set as far as getting into school goes, but I would make sure to have a few schools that you apply to just in case. Anyway, I hope this helps. Good luck on everything, and if your parents are smart they’ll let you go off and take advantage of what the world has to offer.

Colleges do not have a minimum score you MUST get in order to get accepted. You have to make your application stick out as best as possible. Your good grades will help, as well as the more advanced courses you are taking. Aim high for the SAT, try to get a 1300, that would be a reasonable score, but that doesn’t mean if you get anything lower that will lower your chances, because it won’t. Write good essays on your application that will really stand out and ask all of your teachers and former teachers to fill out recommendation forms.

And about the problem with leaving Miami: let your parents know that you want to have a good education and the only closest place to get that amazing education is UF.

I myself live in FL and I am trying to think of ways to give my parents the news that I want to go to NYU– I am also a junior.

Are you wacka-wacka?? You’ve got a 3.9 taking honors classes and AP classes, and your worried about just getting in? I would think you’re trying to get a full scholarship in. Somebody said shoot for 1300, I would say you could probably already get a 1300 if they gave the test to you in Braille. I wouldn’t be worried about that. I’d be seriously worried about about doing well on that armada of serious classes, you now have to make good on. That’s your main worry. Also you should have something in the way of extra-curricular if possible.
