I am not quite sure what you mean about “safe” schools…as recent concerns for campus crime creates a different context for your question. If you are concerned about overall campus crime/campus safety, many schools now instruct their campus security/police departments to publicly report their crime statistics. So contacting the schools directly by visiting their websites and looking at the online campus newspaper or even directly e-mailing the campus police will get you the facts.

If you are wondering about being accepted to schools in VA with your GPA and SAT scores (where “safe” school means ones that will accept you easily because your GPA and SAT scores are well above that of the average entering freshman)…you can get insights to that from talking with your school counselors or with admissions counselors at the various universities of interest to you. These folks generally have access to enrollment statistics. Or you can try some website (try this link http://www.petersons.com/) which gives some general info on various schools.

when you type in the name of a school, it reports some statistics such as SAT/ACT scores for 50% of the entering freshman (if stats are available) and a rating for difficulty level for admission.

Hope this helps you. Best wishes in your endeavors.

With that you’re pretty much “safe” to choose any state school. State schools are generally safe for everyone to apply to and get accepted, but you aren’t in any danger of falling into the “everyone” category. Your score and GPA is plenty good enough. Be proud. πŸ˜‰
