Public or private university?

Which should I go to? I want individual attention, help when I need it, and activities to participate in. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

If you are uncomfortable with large classes then that should be your deciding factor. Hopefully the private school is in a larger city where there will some activities for you.

For a better student : teacher ratio and more individual attention, I would recommend a private school. I went to a small private college and once I became an upperclassman, all of the classes for my major consisted of 10 or less people. My classmates and my professor became my best friends and we often (even my professor!) went bowling or out to dinner, just hanging out and drinking and having fun. There were also plenty of activities around campus too and tons of clubs. Do remember though, the price is significantly higher at private colleges and universities, but they do offer a LOT more scholarships. I never had a class over 30 people though, even my core classes. And every teacher I had always knew my name in under a month.

As you can tell, I’m a little partial! Haha! Good luck deciding though!

If you have the money go for the private university, if you don’t have the money, and the Private university isn’t well known(and by well known I’m speaking of a school that is in the top 50 ranked by US News & World Report) stick with a public.

There’s no reason to get into debt for a school that no one has never heard of.

In terms of getting individual attention, a lot of it just varies by the type of school you go to. Liberal Art Colleges, such as Occidental, Haverford, Williams, Dickinson, Amherst, Bard College, Pomona College etc will tend to give students more personal attention than national research universities such as Stanford, Columbia, UCLA, Harvard, just because national universities tend to be more focused on grad students than undergraduate students

Private is smaller, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you will receive the best. Go where you can afford and feel comfortable/

Either really. Your best bet would be to look at each particular school. See if it is a communter or residental school, and ask about activites.
