It’s awesome that you are already planning ahead. Kudos to you.

Since Duke is a competitive school to enter, you should go to the best udergrad program that you can get into. If you are considering political science because of politics, consider going to Georgetown, George Washington or Johns Hopkins – all of which have great programs in the D.C. area.

Other top rated Poli Sci programs include: Yale, Princeton, Harvard, UC-San Diego and U of Virginia.

Even if you can’t get into one of those programs don’t fret. Just get into the best school that you can (which may not be the best school out there) and do as well as you can. Also, volunteer and get active in school clubs and student government. Finally, do as well as you can on the LSAT.

Good luck.

You can really go to any basic college for political science. I would recommend going to a state university. This way in the end you will not owe a lot of money by the time you get to law school. As long as you get a really good gpa, LSATs, and are involved in organizations you’ll be able to get into Duke. I’ve come to discover that for your bachelors it really doesn’t matter where you go especially if you are planning on going into higher education. So don’t over whelm yourself with anymore debt then need be. Law school is expensive enough as it is.

Good luck!!

Most schools have decent political science programs so you will probably have to consider many different schools to find one that you like. The best way to make a choice is to visit as many schools as possible, even sit in on classes and stay overnight if you can, and then apply to all of the ones you could see yourself at.

Another piece of advice: If you are a freshman in high school, don’t stress about college. I worried about college every day of my life and as a result, I had no fun in high school. Just go with the flow, and focus on day to day stuff for now, and leave the college decisions to the the end of your junior year.
