Physician Assistant.. Bachelors or Masters?

I have a Bachelors Degree already. There are two schools with PA Programs around me. One is GWU which offers a Masters Degree, the other Howard U which has a Bachelors for Physican Assistants. The Masters program, I would have to wait two years to get in! Is there a big difference in getting jsut your Bachelors? Since in the end your taking the same test to get your license? Does this affect your future salary or chances of getting hired?

hi, i am a physician assistant! i went to the masters program…to be honest w/ you, there might not be any difference. i remember meeting a prospective pa student, when i was one also, (we were volunteering at a hospital) and he didnt have a bachelors, but i did..i saw him again 4 years later after meeting him (we are now both pa-c’s) and we do the same thing now. when i spoke to him, he said that he was looking into schools to getting his masters in pa (but online courses..i think u of nebraska has something like that). i don’t know why…so its up to you..but there’s no difference. but to be honest, i would get the masters just b/c you already have your bachelors degree…good luck!

ps: btw, i went to usc (3 year program…don’t do it..go to 2 years)…if you have any more questions, email me! good luck!

To be a PA, you need to go to a PA school, which is a 2 year post graduate program (after receiving a bachelor’s degree). You can get a masters before if you wish, and it may help your chances of getting into a PA program, but it is not necessary. Think of PA school like medical school, but shorter. Hope that helps. Best of luck to you

I think the bachelor’s degree is a prep program for your master’s…. Since PAs are able to write prescriptions I think it requires a grad degree…at least in my state.
