If the issue is financial, you can apply for a waiver of the application fees. Talk to admissions about this, if necessary.

For schools which are highly politically active (and perhaps not conservative, politically (Obama)), which are good fits for home schooled students, which are academically strong, and which just kind of have a vibe that I think might fit you, look at:

– Bryn Mawr

– Vassar

– Colby

– Smith

– Sarah Lawrence

– Claremont McKenna

– Oberlin

– SUNY Binghamton

– UMass Amherst

– Kenyon

– Bard College

– George Washington

– Pepperdine

– Hobart & William Smith

– Mt. Holyoke

– Pitzer

Some of those, like Middlebury, may be a bit of a reach with your ACT scores, but most of them are right in there. I’d like it if you got that ACT up just a little, or at least score at the top of your range.

And as for not having “crap” for extracurriculars – expand your definition. It includes the church work you’ve done, the Obama stuff, the group you started. All that counts. Extracurriculars doesn’t have to mean school-connected activities.
