Need Help!!!?

My son is going to 12th grade in NY this September. He is hoping to pursue a medical career (being a doctor). I want to know what does he needs to do in college & so forth to earn a MD degree in USA. I mean like people tell me medical career is very long in this country. But what exactly are the requirements for a High School senior to go to that field at last.

If someone (preferably a doctor who did his MD in NY or USA recently from HS) can provide me with good explanation about this, it’ll be greatly appreciated.

Here are some good sources to read. The first is a basic primer on the whole process and the second is the Association of American Medical Colleges web site that also answers most questions that people have.

1. Get good grades in High school to get into college. 2. Pick an undergrad degree in the sciences and do well. do community work, work in college organizations, while in school. Practice leadership, do public speaking, volunteer in a homeless shelter, do sports.3. concentrate, take classes on taking MCAT. Picking the medical school is so important! Do you like having to fight the elements just to get to class? Med school is four years, then a residency of 4 or 5 years. Take advantage of all refresher, courses, tutors, study groups, ect.I teach 1st semester medical students and besides being scholastically strong, we look for qualities such as a love for humanity, wanting to be a doctor above everything else, knowing how to prioritize, and knowing that who You are is half the battle. It is not about making money or being a hot shot. It’s about caring for people. The other half is wanting to learn. Also, knowing whether the career is not for you by the second year is important. If it is not, find what is. Being a failure is when you do not know when to walk away. People serve humanty in theri own way. Also, it costs money to go to med school, but almost all Docs have huge loans to repay. That is the least of their problems, having a personal life almost has to take second place, students need an understanding supportive family, friends and partner.
