My patience is really wearing thin in regards to college….?
My original plan was to get my masters degree in social work but now I’m not so sure. I can’t find jobs in that field. I’ve thought about nursing and teaching as well but my dream job is to be a counselor (preferably a school counselor or school social worker). What should I do?
Should I take a few years off before I go to grad school? (I’m so burned out at this point- I’ve been going non-stop even summers for almost 6 years) Also, what would be my best bet in regards to grad school? Masters in counseling or masters in social work?
I just want to be finished and get a good job. My husband has been working overtime so that I’d only have to work part time while in college. (I’m a bank teller) Any advice??!

As for taking time off. IF you are going to do some work in the human services this is probably a good plan. Most Social Work schools consider experience as one of the criteria used in admission. The majority of students that I’ve admitted to the programs I’ve worked in had worked post BA.

I’ve heard one too many stories of those who take “a year off” and don’t end up going back, or regret not going back sooner. Go now while you are still young, most legit master’s programs have limits on how many students they accept, and I think you will have a better chance of getting in fresh out of school. But honestly, as long as you get a master’s degree (along with the licensing to go with it -LPC or LSW) you will be better off, and not making a ridiculously low salary for someone with a bachelor’s degree.
I don’t understand, why all the extra time for the History minor esp when it isn’t going to help you get a job? Sounds like some charismatic teacher roped you into that one.
