Minor Problem?

I am an INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS major and I’m having a problem deciding on a minor that would be best suited for my major.

For my foreign language I’ve decided to take Chinese, but they only have Elementary I & II, and one Intermediate class. So it isn’t suited to be a minor. I thought about Japanese but my passion really lies with Korean, which they don’t offer.

So should I just learn another language or should I take something else that would give my degree that edge?

What do you think? Oh and please tell me why that would be a good minor.

THANKS in ADVANCE

Some colleges offer something along the line of “Global Studies” minors that use different courses from different departments (asian art, languages, geography and history mix possibly).

Some others that may be available are religious studies (think: history and influence of asian religions on customs, holidays, practices), business, communications (translating courses, interpersonal comm, business comm., etc), psychology.

Think long about how you want to use the program. Political science? Tourism/Hospitatlity? Business? (I really don’t think you’d go wrong with a business minor, if available.)

First I would talk to a counselor or one of the instructors in the program. I am sure that you are not the first person there to have this problem. Second I would suggest looking into alternatives. Maybe a semester abroad in China. Most colleges have a travel study division that could help you investigate this option. Typically your tuition covers the cost of classes in the other country and housing is given at a discount in dorms or youth hostels. You would have to pay for travel costs, visas, etc. Good luck.
