First off, take a deep breath & relax.

Taking the MCAT does suck! I actually took it for the first time on the same day as you & anxiously waiting for the result.

Anyways, I’ve been told by several of my friends that if you don’t get into medical school the first time around, consider enrolling in a master program & then reapply again. Most likely you’ll get in the second time around because medical school will be looking at what you did during that time you were off. I would highly suggest that you go visit your career center (at the college you graduate from) & ask a counselor for some advise such as what you can do to boost up your resume.

But whatever you do, don’t give up! If being a doctor is what you really want to do then I know you can do it.Trust me, not everybody that is in medical school made it in the first time around. We’re all going to have a few setbacks in our life. Just don’t let these setback get the best of us. I hope everything turns out well for you! Best wishes to you & your career!

There is more to life than being a doctor. There is nursing, PA, nurs practitioner emt paramedic, flight medics

so don’t give up.

The average age of entering medical school is 26. Thats 5 years post college. It takes multiple attempts unless you have a 4.0

Even after that its all competitive. Do you want to spend your life competing with everyone else. Forget a house, children or spending any time doing anything else.If you keep trying you will get in, just make sure you want to get in. Also, try state schools in your state. They are required to let a certain number of residents in and it actualy increases your chances.

Keep studying and don’t give up. My step sister went to med school and you know what she told me, If she had to do it all over again – she would have gone to Physicians’ assistant school. It would have only been 2 yrs and she would have had far fewer student loans. I decided to go to nursing school instead of PA school, but I think PA school could certainly help you by giving you a direction to work towards for now instead of sitting Idle waiting to pass the MCAT. You would be working toward where you want to go (into medicine) and gaining valuable experience. PA’s can work part time and pull down $65,000 a yr. Thats not bad for 20 hours a week!

Doctors are not making as much as they did 20 yrs ago. I have another friend who is currently in PA school and loving it. Her father was a OBGYN and decided to quit after practicing for 35 yrs. He said the insurance was making it impossible for him to make any money. Oh – BTW – a lot of doctors are getting business and Law degrees. I don’t know how old you are, but you have time to pursue many degrees in your life – make the best of every minute!

If you don’t get in this time, start checking out the Caribbean medical schools. The top 4 schools are as accepted as US schools and virtually all of them will get you a seat at the USMLE.

You can start researching them at StudentDoctor.net or ValueMD.com
