You should check each schools’ requirements first. For example, at this university, sometimes you can’t get into the school of business until you’ve done so many prerequisites other places. (For example, you probably can’t get into the school of law, and you may not be able to get into the school of engineering.) Sometimes if you don’t start in that school it becomes very difficult to transfer later.

Generally, if you’re undecided, arts and sciences is the best place to be. You can take a large number of courses, get your prerequisites out of the way, and have a few semesters to figure out where you want to focus.

Also, don’t worry. The average college student changes her major 3 times. If you make a decision now, or want to try a particular area that seems most interesting, you’re not locked in forever.

If you are undecided, do a general business degree. With a general business degree track you are learning all your core elements like managing, economics, accounting, and etc… . Many of the classes if you choose to switch to a different career track can be used as an elective and some things may even count as your math and science. A business degree looks good when applying to many jobs either in the corporate or government arena. Try to really find out what you want to do with yourself though within your first year and no later than you sophomore year of college. If you don’t know after that, you can be stuck in a major that you really don’t like or be forced to take a job you don’t like. So take some general education requirements, because even as a liberal arts major, you still need most of those general ed requirements. So start with business and see where you go from there.
