The best way to prepare for law school is to do well in whatever undergraduate major you choose to pursue. In my law school class we had a wide range of undergraduate majors reresented, including political science, criminal justice, business administration, english, history, computer science, engineering, etc. You can go to law school with a film/drama/fine art background; I was a communication/television production major in undergrad.

The most important skill from undergraduate study that transfers to law school is the ability to write well. I would recommend undergraduate coursework in some sort of accounting or finance, which would help out in the commercial transaction side of the law. If you want to work in patents, you will need a technical B.S. degree to sit for the patent bar.

I didn’t learn to study well until I was in law school, so I would also recommend building good study habits.

Good luck!

You can pretty much major in any liberal arts program and then later get a law degree. For example, you can major in history and get a law degree because history is a wellrounded major. But, I honestly don’t think that you can major in Film and Drama/Television and then later get a law degree. My reasoning for this is that those are Fine Art majors and aren’t really well-rounded enough to get into a law school.

It doesn’t matter what major you have as long as you get a bachelors degree. Some schools may prefer certain majors, but there is no specific major that you have to have to go to law school. What you need is a good GPA and LSAT score. The LSAT is the Law School Admissions Test that must be taken before applying for law school. 🙂
