Is twelve works cited unreasonable for a 2000 word paper?

I really feel like this is an unreasonable request for a 2000 word paper. Am I wrong?

Not really. 2000 words will turn out to be around 6-7 pages if you’re using the standard double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman format. Two sources per page seems reasonable. It means you’ll have to do your research, but it leaves plenty of room within the paper for you to say what you want to say.

Seems like there won’t be much room left for your own ideas or interpretations, but maybe that’s not of interest to your instructor. Sometimes they just want to see that you are able to properly cite your sources within the text and in the bibliography — not a very interesting exercise for you, but you will learn how it’s done, and that’s important! Good luck!!

That’s heavily dependent upon the subject. If the subject is very well published with a wealth of information on it, then it is not only reasonable, but easy to do.
