Same-sex marriage is a term for a governmentally, socially, or religiously recognized marriage in which two people of the same sex live together as a family. Other terms for this type of relationship include “gay marriage”, “gender-neutral marriage, and equal marriage, lesbian marriage, homosexual marriage, single-sex marriage, and same-gender marriage”. In contemporary usage, the adjective gay usually describes a person’s sexual orientation, being the standard term for homosexual. (Wikipedia) The term “marriage” is defined as “the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex, as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law.” (Webster) Gay marriage is not when two people of the opposite sex are united as husband and wife, but is defined as two people of the same sex living together as a married couple. For example, when a man and woman are married, it is not considered a “gay marriage” because the two people are of opposite sex. It is considered a “gay marriage” when a man and another man or when a woman and another woman are married because the couple is of the same gender. A homosexual relationship is when two people of the same sexual origin have sexual relations.
