I am in the same situation. I grad in may, work at a counseling center m-f days and work fri, sat and sun nights at a macy’s selling clothes for a 2nd job. I live with the folks and am maybe going to get some relief on the loans by going back to college (beggining grad school, hopefully) in jan. So I mean, while someone said its your outlook, I can’t help but think that all this you hear and see in media makes you think that after college, in your 20s that life can be kinda tough, but supposed to be better than being broke and working 2 jobs trhough college. At times, I don’t see the point in having went, especially when I have a bad time at both of my jobs on fridays sometimes, but I remember that with 4 more semesters, whiles I will be in more debt from grad school, I will be making about triple what I am making now. Hence why some majors have quick payoff like nursing and stuff like pre-med and stuff you need a master’s to do takes longer to see the fruits of your work. Hang in there. Email me, we can talk and be friends most likely, since we have so much in common.

It depends entirely on your outlook, I think. You’ll be the same person after college that you were in high school.

Student debt is tragic, and shouldn’t be incurred if at all possible, but apparently the world is like that nowadays. I’m an old college professor, and it bothers me a lot. If that’s what has happened to make your life miserable, then I can only apologize on behalf of a higher-education system that’s gone mad: education should set you free, not burden you with debt.

If you need debt counseling, get it; start at your bank. Make sure that you’re not continuing to add to your financial woes by misuse of credit cards. Look for jobs nationally: if you’re in an expensive place like California or the East Coast, look to the north or Midwest for work in your field if possible; it’s far cheaper to live and there may be more opportunities socially. Go abroad if you can get free.

Good luck. One of the reasons I don’t teach college anymore is that I couldn’t stand to see the kids go into such debt.
