Is it too late for college?

I am 37 and in the mortgage business. As anyone who watches the news knows…that market is in deep trouble. I am in the market for a new job, new industry, new everything if necessary. I went to the military instead of college and am now considering college because NOBODY considers military experience to be worth a damn. So is this feasible or should I just move on to another boring job?

Thanks,

Dustin

Yes, you can go to college at any age. I highly recommend you make an appointment with a career counselor at the college of your choice and discuss your options. S/He has plenty of resources available to assist you in making the best career choice for you. Since you spend so much of your life working (@30%+), it is important to be doing something you enjoy.

You will find people of all ages attend universities these days. Do your best and you will be successful.

Best wishes.

Dustin honey it is never too late for college. I am 45 years old and working on a Bachelors in Sociology, and doing a very good job, so no it is never too late, and I am quite sure since you were in the military that your education may be paid for. Have a son who just got out of the military, and it so true what you said about the experience, but you go to college, and I salute you Dustin, God Bless you and God Luck, let me know when you have enrolled okay 🙂

I believe it is never too late. If it will serve you, go ahead and take the leap. It looks that you are expecting a same old job if you just get another one. So college is probably something to shoot for.

You can get financial aid to help you out. Everything else relies on how determined you are in succeeding in school. Start off in a community college to get a feel of school again and to look for a possible major. Then you can either get an Associates degree, or better yet transfer to a 4-year university and earn a Bachelors or above.

Contact a local college career center to help you out.

Good luck.

Yes it is feasible, many colleges are catering to non-traditional students such as yourself. Just don’t go into college because you want a new job that is a poor reason to go into a university setting. College is meant like the military to train you to think in different subjects and to analyze the materials. It just takes initiative. If you want to try it out take a couple classes at a community college because they tend to be inexpensive and they can be transferred easier.

Times are getting tough, I know. 37 isn’t too old to take classes but too old to really become a part of the college environment. I would advise you to just do all on-line classes and try to work at the same time. It would be much less ackward than being on a campus with 18-22 year olds everywhere. (But at least the girls are hottest at that age).

Fill out the FAFSA, the government helps with the $ depending on your income.

37 is not too late- of course not! Get on it, you may be able to start (even just 1 class) in September. What are you doing on Yahoo? Start calling schools!

You should definitely consider going to college. I know someone who is 42 and recently went back to school. It’s no big deal. You could also consider taking online courses, but I think actually going to college is better.

No way, its never too late to go to college! In your case, I would go online with University of Phoenix or a local school that does both online and night courses that are flexible with your scheudle.

huh?
Hey Dustin,

You may also wish to check with vet affairs, you may still qualify for GI bill funding of college.

Definitely go to college! Since you’re currently working you may even want to check online programs.
