is it possible to study Medicine as international student in the USA???

i have got an offer for a bachelors degree with full scholarships in an university in the USA.

i am a international student planning to do a bachelors along with pre-med from the USA and then i am planning to study medicine there. Finally i want to return to my home country and practice here. I dont want to study medicine in my home country as it has the worst medical studies!

Is this route good for me? I cant afford myself for medicine as international student? do u think i should still try to USA for medicine(after pre-med) in a hope that i will get scholarships?

are there any medical school in the USA or Canada that offer full scholarships??

Any info would be kindly appreciated. Thanks.

There are a large number of medical students in the USA who are foreign nationals. From that standpoint, go for it. As for financial aid in the USA, there are many types of financial aid that are not available to foreign nationals. Nearly all foreign nationals that have full scholarships for post-grad education have done so with fellowships and assistantships. Students selected for fellowships and assistantships are very small in number, especially for medical school, and so competition is fierce, as many doing post-graduate work have very strong academic credentials with superlative letters of recommendation. Unfortunately, money doesn’t grow on trees.

Canada provides much more to its citizens in the way of student loans. Canada’s immigration policies are much less restrictive than the USA’s. If you plan on returning home after med school, though, you probably don’t want to become a citizen of Canada.

well..i am in same socks as you..the only difference is you were offered a full scholarship..well..i havent applied yet but i plan to do so quite soon. I want to study pre-med also and plan to go medical school…and i am also an international student.

My advice is that life is about risks and trying to do what is best for yourself. You go out there and make the most of the opportunity handed to you. Go there with confidence and try your best to be successful.

i am not aware of any medical school that offer full scholarships in the usa or canada since i am an international student myself.

when do you plan to study? next fall? what school?

Congratulations on obtaining a scholarship for your undergrad. Unfortunately, scholarships for medical school are very rare. Even worse, as an international student, you will have to have a cosigner with an established credit history in the US for any student loans.

I suggest you contact your country’s embassy to see if they might be of assistance. You might also contcat the United Nations and USAID offices in your country to see if they have any financial assistance to offer.

1) Obtain a four year Bachelor’s degree. You could major in anything! From music, engineering, business, to your typical biochemistry and biology degree. 2) Biochemistry and Biology will fulfill your medical prerequisites required for medical school and will more than likely prepare you to take the entrance exam to medical school, also known as the MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test). Prerequisites include and are not limited to…. 1 year of Physics 1 year of English 1 year of Calculus 1 year of General Chemistry 1 year of Organic Chemistry 1 year of Biology 3) Take the MCAT – Comprised of subjects you have taken as prerequisites; general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, biology, and a writing portion. The test itself is nearly 5.5 hours long. 4) Be involved with research opportunities with your professors. Biological research will look very well in your favor. But, from what I have been informed, any type of research will be accepted 5) Letters of recommendations – You must have one letter from an academic professor explaining how you are as a student in terms of work ethic, motivation, and will. The second letter should be written by a Physician stating that you are prepared to enter the field of Medicine. As for the third letter, this should describe what type of individual you are. This could come from a pastor, professional, or mentor who would know you really well to write a letter on your behalf of your personality, character, and skill set. 6) Volunteering would look nice as well, so it demonstrates to the admissions committee that you were exposed to the medical field and knowing what you were getting yourself into than the simple task of becoming a doctor for the money or the status. 7) Apply to medical school =-0
