Yeah, its perfectly acceptable. The only way your professor will get upset is if you’re asking him/her to read over it shortly before its due or if it looks like you’re trying to get them to do your proofreading for you. Since getting them to read over it and give you advice shows that you’re actually putting effort into the essay most professors will see you in a more positive light and may even let some things slide when they grade if they see you made an effort to take their advice. And no professor cares about you coming in during office hours since otherwise they’re sitting there doing nothing for one to two hours.

Absolutely. Most College Professors are there because they love to teach and help students learn. However, there are some that just plain suck pond water. If I were you, I’d go up to them and ask them after class. I am sure they would love to!

yes, just as long as you give him/her a few days before the due date to do it. even if he/she says that they can’t take a look at it, ask if you can set up a time to go over an outline of the paper. this way you can at least get feedback on content and structure, if not the body of the entire paper
